IT Show 2007 ended yesterday. I went on almost every single day of this 4day event. (Minus Saturday, was too lazy to go)(On the side note: You probably not understand alot of things in this post if you're not into cameras.) Thursday, I went there to scout for my DSLR (Digital Single Lens Reflect). Coouldn't make up my mind what I want to buy. So, went to Canon, Olympus, Sony, Nikon and Pentax to check out their DSLRs. After all the feeling and touching and asking, I was finally able to filter it down to 3 brands. Canon - EOS 400D, Olympus - E500 Dual Lens kit and Sony - Alpha 100. But the sony camera dropped out because of its cost and also they're not using carl zeis lens for their first DSLR, but rather, their own Sony lens, which didn't give me much confidence in. So, it's down to 2 cameras. Friday, it was a day for me to buy my camera already. After these 2 days, the IT show will be so packed that it's almost impossible to buy or have a dedicated salesman for any product. So, made my way down to the IT Show straight after school to get a finally feel on the camera and to get more details. After pondering for half an hour, I've made up my mind! It's going to be the Canon EOS 400D. Why? The reson is simple. Firstly, the battery life's an important factor. A rough estimate of 300 shots per full charge, compared to 200 per full charge in the E500. Secondly, the age of the DSLR. Canon has just released this camera in June last year. So, it's much newer and updated in terms of technology as compared to the E500. Thirdly, is the number of frames per second, 3 compared to 2.5 . Fourthly, upgradability is also a concern for me. While the canon one promises a wide range of other ways to improve it, such as battery grip the E500 doesn't support that. Lastly, it's the confidence in Canon that I have that made the call. (Luckily, I didn't really have a tight budget. If not, the E500 would definately be the chioce. It's truly a better value for money. But, since this is a long-term investment, I think the EOS 400D will carry further and deliver better. After buying the camera, I spent the whole night on Friday and the whole of Saturday"playing" with it. It's such a beauty. Totally awesome to own a DSLR. The feeling of taking photos using a DSLR is definately better than one with a compact camera. The sound of the shutter closing and opening is truly unbeatable and enjoyable. My mum decided that we should get the extra warranty at the IT show since it's such a huge investment, it's better to buy "insurance" for it. And only at the IT show would they offer an additional 3 months warranty in addition to the 24 months bought. It was totally a squeeze on Sunday. Very difficult to move around the exhibition hall. And at one point, they even had to close off the escalators going up to the fourth floor to allow people from higher floors to come down. That's how bad it was. LOST at Monday, March 12, 2007 |
